Let's Talk About Our Come Back and Mental Health
Mental Health is real
• Stigma against seeking professional help in the community
• Stigma that mental illness means you are an outcast
• If you have health insurance through your employer, check your benefits… you may be missing out of a few free sessions with a therapist
• If you don’t want to seek professional help, it is important to find a healthy outlet, or seek a loved one you feel you can trust
An article on verywellmind.com titled, “Exploring the Mental Health Stigma in Black Communities”, by Psychotherapist, Amy Morin, states that “… issues like systemic racism and the lack of culturally sensitive treatment by providers may also play a role in the way the Black community views mental illness and treatment. It is not normalized in the way that it should be. People often view it as a personal and/or moral defect. As a result, the mental health field is viewed along the same lines as the other systems that have caused substantial harm to Black people.
